Trace demonstration
Asymmetric Response / Particle Diode
Different particle outcomes from different approach conditions.

What is happening?
This trace demonstrates asymmetric behaviour: particle populations do not respond identically under opposing or altered approach conditions. This is the basis for diode-like particle control, where transmission and rejection can become directionally dependent.
Where this may be used
Ion-source conditioning: Helping manage which particle populations are admitted into downstream systems.
Beamline control: Creating electrostatic selection stages before analysis, acceleration or detection.
Scientific instrumentation: Direction-sensitive filtering for charged-particle transport systems.
Velocity response of rejected particles
Velocity profile of rejected particles showing deceleration as they approach the rejection region, followed by reversal and re-acceleration away from the gate. This supports the interpretation of field-mediated rejection rather than mechanical impact or random scattering.
